Defending The Constitution - One Line At A
Time!
IF NOT NOW - WHEN?
An Important Message from a Valley Forge Soldier
Americans know so little about American history, especially in the
early days. They don't know we almost lost the American
Revolution.
At Valley Forge, our troops had not eaten for several days.
They had few weapons, not enough ammunition, few medical supplies,
standing barefooted in the snow.
When they died, their hopes and dreams died for their family.
There was no government welfare, no retirement for soldiers, when
daddy died, every body back at home, their dreams died with him.
In the theater of my mind, I hear an echo coming from Valley Forge.
I see a lone American patriot soldier in George Washington's
continental army, standing barefoot in the snow. Shivering in
rags, hungry, blood stained from the battle.
He holds his musket in his bandaged hand and there's fire in his
eyes. Looking 200 years later into our generation, he addresses us
saying.
"I gave to you a birth right of freedom, born in the constitution, and your
children graduate from high school too illiterate to read it.
I fought barefoot in the snow, to give you the right to vote, and you
stay home on election day because it rained.
I left my family destitute, so you could
have freedom of speech, and you remain silent because it might be
bad for business, to speak out for America.
I orphaned my children, to give you a
government to serve you, and through neglect, you have
permitted special interest to hijack democracy."
The voice from Valley Forge continues, saying....
"It is the soldier, not the reporter, who
gives you the freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given you the freedom of
speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given you the
freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, who salutes the
flag, who serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the
flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to rekindle the passion of
patriotism in America. It's time to give the men and women in
uniform the honor they are due.
